These cal.311 "single aught" buckshot are of the correct size for musket cartridges as per the 1861 Ordnance Manual. The addition of several pellets of buckshot to a standard musket load effectively turned the weapon into a shotgun, and would have proved to be deadly at close range or in the thick underbrush of the frontier.
